Mamata Banerjee’s dream project for girl child “Kanyashree” of Bengal now becomes“Kanyashree” of the world. It grabs first place in the United Nation Public Service Award by UN. #বাংলার কন্যাশ্রী আজ বিশ্বের কন্যাশ্রী
On the occasion of UN
Public Service Day on 23rd June 2017, the United Nation awarded the
United Nations Public Services first place winner award in the Category on
Reaching the Poorest and Most Vulnerable through Inclusive Services and
Participation, to Government of West Bengal for "Kanyashree", out of
552 nominations from 62 countries.
The prestigious award
is in recognition of excellence in public service for sustainable development,
innovation and our commitment to leave no one behind in the development agenda
of our government.

“Thank you so much. I think public
service is service for all; and public means people - government of the people,
by the people, for the people. I come from West Bengal in India, home to 100
million people. But public service also means continuous monitoring and
providing regular service for the people.
I have attended more than 300
administrative review meetings where we meet all the public representatives
including block-level officials. Because of the accountability, transparency
and sustainable developmental work, we achieve 100 per cent of our goals.
You will be happy to know that out
of our state’s 100 million people, we give direct benefits to 90 per cent, and
the people are so happy. We empower the girl child through the Kanyashree
project. We help everyone - the minorities, other backward classes (OBCs), and
everyone from a newborn baby to senior citizens. When a baby is born, we give
each a plant. We give scholarships to 20 million people. We have given free
bicycles, which is a green transportation, to about 7 million students. We give
pensions and other benefits to the elderly. We give rural people guaranteed 100
days’ work, thus providing job opportunities for the poor. We give free
foodgrains to the people. We give free healthcare, from kidney transplantation
to heart transplantation. We provide healthcare, so people are very happy.
Thus, we provide help along the
entire life-cycle of a person. We feel we must help the downtrodden people. We
ensure that benefits reach the poor people, the people at the grassroots. The
benefits have reached so many people because we ensure continuous monitoring, and
because of the administrative review meetings and the administrative calendar.
There must be commitment, dedication
and determination. If you have a dream, you have to achieve it. What is needed
is for the leader to lead the people. We lead the people. Thank you so much.”
