Is the kidney racket still going on in your hospital?” lashed
out chief minister Mamata Banerjee leaving the representative of Medica
Hospital (one of the prominent private hospitals of Kolkata) fumbling for
answers. TV/ Radios we are so accustomed with now but a literal thrashing by
Didi to one of the Pvt Hospital Management.
The ember was there among common people but it raged on to a
fire in CMRI ( though severely criticised by all) which led to a meeting
between the CM of WB & Kolkata Pvt Hospitals, live telecast showed how well
our Didi is equipped with data & info , how she rips the CEO, MD &
others to tatters when common people are troubled .
This is Didi , who always connects with common people. No
Govt before dared to do this which Didi has done. This has been hailed by all
common people though some vested interest people have raised question on this
act. Interesting who have raised ? those who are part of the Board of these Hospitals , relatives
associated with these Hospitals and many such Social ELITES.
Interesting the
move though not a political one has snubbed them all. Who has the guts to ask
straight questions like “I was speaking with someone from Bangladesh. They told
me that they are thinking of not sending patients to your hospital. You charge
exorbitantly high,” Mamata Banerjee told Rana Dasgupta, the COO of Apollo
Gleneagles Hospitals. The official tried to answer her queries but faced a
torrent of allegations from the chief minister.
In her meeting with hospitals' authorities, Mamata asked them
to be "humane" and "ethical," and not to treat medical
service as any other business. "This is not a factory. I am not asking you
to treat patients, free of cost. At the same time, I won't accept if you go for
100% profit," she said.
The chief minister said that the government has already
initiated action against 103 private hospitals.
She announced the WB Hospital Regulatory Commission to be set
up. Chief minister Mamata Banerjee is bringing a special bill on March 3rd to
form a West Bengal Health Regulatory Commission for monitoring the activities
of private hospitals and nursing homes.
The previous Left Front Govt which was so called pro Poor,
pro common men, pro downtrodden, pro garibi and all pro associated with it
could not do anything to stop this menace, mainly due to lots of CPM leaders
(or their kin’s) are attached with Pvt Hospitals.
The human face of Didi has once again silenced all.
